Collaborative planning and design input for the planning, design and documentation of a Jazz Club and advice on food and beverage areas for Stage 3 of the Alexander Theatre redevelopment
Monash University is transforming its Clayton campus into a world-leading cultural, teaching, research and living epicentre. This includes refurbishing the heart of its cultural precinct the Alexander Theatre and adding a new Sound Gallery and Jazz Club to create
a new cultural heart for the university and the south-eastern region of Melbourne.
To be known as The Ian Potter Centre for Performing Arts, its performance piece de resistance will be digitally adjusted acoustics to optimise sound for all performance modes. Function rooms and café facilities will service the theatre.
Adjoining this via the new foyer will be a 130-seat Sound Gallery, a 200-seat Jazz Club and a north-facing terrace café. The project
will herald a new era of performing arts facilities at the campus. Peter Elliott Architecture and Urban Design is set to revive the
original theatre’s heroic architecture.
Drawing on our well established food and beverage design and planning experience with other major cultural institutions, The Maytrix Group is informing planning for this tremendously exciting project that’s set to enliven the cultural life of Melbourne’s growing south-eastern corridor. Design documentation, compliance, equipment requirements, operational effectiveness and procuring top-class operators is part of our brief, alongside working with multiple contractors to ensure a smooth start expected in early 2018.
