Coroner’s Court Cafe

World-class health precinct includes innovative café concept focused on community wellness
Cornerstone values of dignity, privacy and compassion informed the planning for an inner urban café to service visitors to the Health Services Precinct in Lidcombe, NSW. Located in the new high-tech $91.5m Forensic Pathology and Coroner’s Court, the carefully planned café plays a key role in supporting the community and the health-focused values of NSW Health.
The consolidation of the state’s coronial and forensic pathology services on one large purpose-built site will provide effective justice services. The new facility incorporates world best practice design and includes a carefully planned contemporary café which will offer respite to staff and visitors, through delivering bespoke coffee and a healthy and diverse menu offer with wide appeal.
The need to serve a variety of stakeholders and maximise the potential of a complex site required a strategic approach to concept, design and operator procurement, to realise the vision and support the community values for this unique café.
Working closely with the project team and stakeholders, The Maytrix Group finalised café planning to achieve a thoughtful, needs-based design while ensuring a functional and operationally effective layout. A strategic approach to procuring an operator for this unique café was developed through consultation with the diverse stakeholder group, to achieve an outcome which meets the needs and aspirations for both the Court facility and Health Sciences Precinct.
Engagement focused on clearly expressing the opportunity and mapping the requirements for response through an effectively documented Expression of Interest and contract agreement, and a transparent framework for efficient evaluation of respondents. Delivered under a tight program, the procurement process ensured the café launched with the opening of the new Coroners Court facility by the Minister early 2019.
