Community connection, creativity and sustainability define the opportunity for a new café at Footscray Community Arts Centre
Footscray Community Arts Centre is Australia’s longest-running centre for community-engaged contemporary arts practice. Established in 1974, it runs an artistic program shaped by engagement, collaboration and conversation with communities from Melbourne’s west, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, indigenous communities, disadvantaged and marginalised communities and people with disabilities.
Facilities span two galleries, rehearsal and performance areas and digital media spaces, and the Centre has been successful in attracting significant audiences to its comprehensive, diverse and dynamic program. The mission of community engagement is supported by the Centre’s café, long a favourite meeting place for quirky, eclectic Footscray and significant contributor to the deep social connection the Centre enjoys with its communities.
Footscray Community Arts Centre seeks to reframe the role of the café to further contribute to the creative and cultural precinct. In preparation for seeking Expressions of Interest for an operator, The Maytrix Group was engaged to inform planning, document and manage the procurement process, and advise on contract preparation.
To ensure the process was informed by the appropriate level of community engagement, The Maytrix Group developed a community and stakeholder engagement strategy, and a communications strategy to guide the operator procurement process. Documentation to guide the FCAC’s decision making process was developed, including evaluation criteria and a risk matrix. In parallel to the EOI documentation, a catering services agreement including Key Performance Indicators was delivered to ensure sustainable, innovative delivery of services that meet strategic objectives of the contract.
