High level review of current functions and café operations informed by stakeholder engagement and operational benchmarking to ensure a robust catering contract
Heide Museum of Modern Art (Heide), located in historically significant gardens in Bulleen, provides ‘an inspiring, educational and thought provoking experience of modern and contemporary art, architecture and landscape’. In 2008, Heide undertook the refurbishment of some gallery spaces and the café which together with function operations, was outsourced as a destinational café offer. The return on investment from the catering operations has progressively diminished since contract commencement. The Maytrix Group was appointed to benchmark performance and return, and provide advice through the renegotiation of the catering contract.
The project required a high level review of function and café operations, resulting in a contracting strategy and contract negotiation on behalf of the Heide Board of Management concluding in an Executive and Board report.
The Maytrix Group undertook a high level review of current function and café operations. The Maytrix group undertook stakeholder consultation along with contract and operational benchmarking. A contract options report was delivered to Heide Executive and Board. The Maytrix Group was then retained to negotiate a new contract with the incumbent operator which delivered a stronger commercial return to Heide along with clearer performance indicators to assist Executive and Board to manage the contract moving forward.
The review informed the development of a robust catering contract with performance indicators reflecting reporting and operational delivery expectations for this contract. Negotiations with the incumbent operator were successful with the operator positively engaged in renegotiation of revised contract terms and licence fee. A revitalised agreement provided increased visitation to Heide through increased visitor engagement.
