Taronga Wildlife Retreat
Client: Taronga Zoo
Management of the tender process to procure a world-class operator for catering operations and the new Taronga Wildlife Retreat
With more than 1.6m visitors per annum, Taronga Zoo differentiates itself by providing market leading facilities and activities that educate and inspire, while encouraging community participation and recognition of its conservation efforts.
A key project underway is the forthcoming eco-certified boutique accommodation facility, Taronga Wildlife Retreat, which supports the zoo’s aspiration to provide immersive visitor experiences. Scheduled to open late 2018, it will be located within the Zoo’s new Australian Habitat exhibit and, in addition to accommodation, will offer dinner, breakfast and function packages that complement Taronga’s sustainability and conservation ethos.
Taronga is seeking to achieve a high standard of catering and service delivery for the Retreat, that will enhance the visitor experience while providing value for money and return on investment.
The Maytrix Group managed the procurement process for selection of an operator for catering services and the Wildlife Retreat. A two-stage process (expression of interest and tender) was implemented, allowing for pre-qualification of suitable respondents prior to issue of the tender documentation. Importantly, the process emphasised the integration of environmentally sustainable practices within catering operations, including produce, product and equipment procurement, and best practice waste management innovation. A key focus of the tender was to source an operator that shared Taronga’s values and would commit to incorporating these values throughout their operations.
Through a consultative process of scoping, research, documentation and framework strategies, The Maytrix Group delivered a diligently managed approach to the market and tender process on Taronga’s behalf. Our customised methodology provided a range of responses befitting the Zoo’s status as a world-class venue, supporting its sustainability goals and commitment to conservation.
