Melbourne and Olympic Parks – AAMI Park

Client: Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust

The Maytrix Group developed a procurement strategy and appointed a food and beverage operator for a 400 seater café, bar and function venue at AAMI Park on Olympic Boulevard, Melbourne.

The Project

The Melbourne and Olympic Parks Precinct boasts world-class facilities for sport, entertainment and functions. Around 2.5 million Victorian, interstate and overseas visitors attend events at Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena and AAMI Park each year. The world acclaimed 31,000 seat AAMI Park opened as an iconic Victorian home for the rugby and soccer codes, and significant contributes to Melbourne’s culture.

The Bench Café is a 400 seater café, bar and function venue on the ground level of AAMI Park. It is a focal point for visitors who attend
matches, training players and stadium tenants. Since opening in May 2010, The Bench had been managed by Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory under a sub-tenant arrangement. By agreement with these clubs, Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust had resumed management control. This enabled the opportunity to create a competitive café offer to complement food concessions within the Stadium

Our Role

On Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust’s behalf, The Maytrix Group documented and managed an Expression of Interest to engage experienced cafe operators. After analysing the key requirements and developing specifications for the contract the Expression of Interest provided the opportunity to develop a sustainable catering strategy and improved service delivery at the venue. The Expression of Interest attracted strong interest which supplied good competition and demand through procurement. With a very short project timeline, the process from documentation to operator commencement was completed inside of four months. Key improvements to the contract included better contract delivery, boosted commercial returns and enhanced food and beverage service delivery on game days at AAMI Park.
